We are a few weeks into our new unit of inquiry, Sharing the Planet. You may be hearing your child discussing our lines of inquiry at home already.

To introduce the difference between needs and wants groups got together and had to sort through various pictures and be able to agree which side to place the item. The conversations were priceless!
We even brought our work to animals and did did our first research project on polar bears.
We had a great time sharing our books with partners too. Our partners had a big job: tell us what we did well, and help us with how to make our work even better.
Learning about the Arctic Circle was fascinating. Especially because we were right in the middle of our our Arctic plunge in temperature. A perfect time to investigate how the polar bears body is designed to keep them warm.
Mr. Chuck and Mr. Phil
Last week's pipe burst was a surprise and we learned that Mr. Chuck and Mr. Phil spent their whole weekend cleaning our building so it would be ready for us on Monday, We brought them treats and they gave us high-fives. Working together and sharing our appreciation of others is what SHARING THE PLANET is all about!
Playhouse Square
The Rainbow fish was such a good play to see and fit so well into our unit of inquiry.
Safety Town
Our Safety Town field trip was postponed due to the days off last week but this week the instructors came for the classroom portion and we learned. We are still planning on going to the "Town" but not until April now.
100th Day Fun
100 days already? Does not even seem possible. It was an exciting day! I told my husband later that night, imagine an 8 hour birthday party with 5/6 year olds, we all went home tired and happy.
**Did you check out the cute pictures of your 100 year old kindergartners that were sent home on Friday? My goodness we had a lot of laughs!
Working together to figure out a way for the 20 of us to build a castle with 100 cups (talk about problem solving!):
Caring Day
February 14
We will celebrate Caring Day (aka Valentine's Day) on Thursday. Please have your child bring in cards for their friends (19). *It is quite alright if your child's card has a treat attached. We will enjoy one or two and send the rest home.
Your child only needs to sign their name, not write their friend's name (it makes passing them out so much easier).
Also, for snack that day, I am encouraging everyone to bring in a red snack for themselves. It will be fun to see what everyone has and compare.

Sight Word Check
We will be having a sight word check in next week on the third quarter word list.
